To honor my friends request, a lyric sheet for “Yellow Submarine,” The second thing that happened is that one other little boy used his sheet to make a picture for me and write that it was for our music time together. It wasn’t until I got home when it occurred to me that what he wanted was to draw a picture of the song and write the words to it on the lines below. I still didn’t get it, but offered to make him up a lyric sheet so he could have the words and sing the song at home. I piped up to say that the reason teachers want the kids to work on their handwriting is so that they don’t end up with a hieroglyph like mine! A few moments later he came back and asked me to write out the words to the song for him. Mason to ask her to decipher my “quirky” scrawl, since he clearly couldn’t read it, though I’d thought I’d been extra careful to make my writing legible. I have to admit here that he went straight over to Ms. While I began to pack my bag, one of the children brought his paper over to me and asked me to write the title and author down for “Yellow Submarine.” I thought at first that he asked because maybe he wanted his parents to find him the book so they could sing it at home. They had blank papers marked off with a square space for making a picture with horizontal lines printed below the square where the children were to write a sentence about the picture they drew. The children returned to their desks to work on a drawing and writing project. After the Sing Books visit, two wonderful things happened in the time it took me to pack up my big suitcase. Mason’s class the other day and we sang “Yellow Submarine,” which is always a favorite.
